| Not sure who allows this but a streaming software utility is here: Broadcaster StudioPRO enables you to broadcast video files, desktop activity or streaming video via your webcam. The program acts as a virtual camera drive, and you can configure any webcam application (e.g Yahoo Messenger, Live Messenger, Skype etc.) to use the Broadcaster driver instead of your regular camera. Broadcaster will then act as a proxy between your webcam and the application, allowing you to switch between live webcam capture and broadcasting of saved files, or even desktop activity. In addition, the program also enables you to broadcast to multiple applications, allowing you to use your webcam with more than one messenger application at the same time. Broadcaster StudioPRO can also be used to record video playback from other media players or web browsers by placing the recording frame over the video area and recording it. The video can then be saved as MPEG, MP4, AVI or VOB file. The program offers some unique features, we particularly liked the ability to send desktop activity via Live Messenger (or other applications). | Can Live Web Cams tell when someone is viewing/streaming in? This is a totally random question, but random questions are what I usually ask. I was checking different Dog Day Care options for when I go to Ocean City, MD this weekend & one site has 3 Live Web Cams (one cam in the small size dogs area, one cam in the medium size dogs area, & one cam in the large size dogs area) that you can click on & view & check in on your dog(s) at any time if you choose to have them stay at this particular doggie day care. I clicked all 3 web cam streams & all 3 live streams of the 3 different dog rooms popped up (3 different small windows -one for each camera- pop-up & you can watch the dogs in all 3 areas live). I either have extremely good timing & just by pure coincidence w/ what happened next-- or there could be something extremely different going on at this place. Not even 1 minute after having the cameras up & running on my computer screen, a man worker appeared in the large dogs room & he was just standing there staring at a wall but trying to make himself look like he was interested in the dogs in the room. Then, on both the 2nd & 3rd camera views of the medium & small dog rooms, a lady appeared in the medium dogs room & a younger man in the small dogs room. Again, both of these people appeared in the designated rooms no more than a minute from me streaming the web cams live & the lady was acting like the guy in the large dogs room. She looked kinda pissed off & was not looking like she enjouyed having to be in the room with the dogs as she had her both of her arms bent and resting on her hips & like the guy in the large dogs room she was staring towards a wall & paying no mind to the 5 dogs at her feet all of which were begging for attention. In the third room -with the small dogs- the younger guy in the room just wandered around the room aimlessly & after realizing that the 10 dogs in that room all wanted his attention & were dying for some human interaction, the guy goes & gets a mop (no bucket) and he just starts mopping the floor of that room half-assed. When he was swinging the mop back on forth across the floor, it was if he was trying to shoo the dogs away from him. All 3 seemed as if they knew that one of the doggie's owners are watching what is going on at that moment & they wanted to look like they are doing their promised job of playing with the dogs & providing non-stop human interaction/attention and they seemed kind of annoyed by it all. Just how it all happened & just how all 3 were acting & the stand-offishness all 3 showed. So, this got me thinking: Does anyone know if there is such a webcam or product or software out there that can alert places such as this when someone is streaming into any/all of their cams so therefore they can get in front of the camera & act like they were doing what they said they would be --only when they know someone is watching? It could definitely be done & this alert feature would not be hard to implement into most web cams so does this exist? TY :) |

| How to set up live streaming web cam to watch pet? I am wanting to use a netbook (with webcam installed) to watch my pet while I am at work and gone on weekend trips (he is a cat). What is the best way to do this? I want live streaming footage, not "pictures" as some website software offers. I thought about setting up a password protected web page but have no idea how to do that. Any suggestions? Thanks! |
| You could use simple windows media centre ( I think it's free). You then get it streaming. Once streaming make sure your router or filewall is enabled to allow outbound traffic you can then use any windows player and connect to it from anywhere. |

| The software to do this usually comes with the video card to take in the video from the cameras. You want to search for security video distribution solutions. Should run about $500 to $2000 depending on the card you get and the type of cameras you have. If you intend to stream to a large audience, you will want to purchase a server farm to distribute the video streams to the public, and have at least one video server handling each stream. If you are going to have less than about 100 people viewing all your streams simultaneously, you can probably do it with 1 extra computer handling the distribution. The more money you spend on the base computer and the video card, the better you will be in position to stream the video. |
